This was the first time I used my pen holder with Silhouette Studio. It was really fun! I did a little researching (ok Googling) and found some really cool ideas using the pen holder. Anyone have some gel pens they wanna give me? The one I used wasn't the best (Souffle) and I had to go back over the design myself. It gives it the handmade look, right?

Father's Day Card: Papa Bear

This card is for my husband from my daughter. Ok she's 7 months old, so I made it. Anyways. I found this shape in the Silhouette store and I loved it, but it didn't quite meet what I was looking for. So I modified it.

First I erased all the shapes except the bear. Then I duplicated the bear (or copy + paste) and flipped it to face the other bear. To make sure it would fold correctly, I spaced the bears away from each other a little and drew two cut lines. Voila!

Father's Day Card: Best Dad of All Time

Here's a card I made for Father's Day for my pawpaw, father-in-law and Ricardo. (Inspiration found here) Ricardo is my husband's grandma's husband. We don't say "step grandpa" we just say Ricardo (even though his name is Richard).

To make this card, I found a clipart of a watch I liked:

And then used my "Trace" feature in Silhouette Studio. (Sidenote, Silhouette users, what do you think of Silhouette Studio 3.0? It's taken a little getting used to, but I like it!)

I cut out the watch and then the words for each card. Slapped the watch on the card and some paper behind to fill in the background of the words and voila. I even made some simple envelopes to go with. 

I've got more cards coming, one for my dad and two (hopefully) for my husband. It's his first Father's Day!

Father's Day at Brave Brooke's House

I have an equation for birthdays and father's day around here. Something he needs, something he wants, and something sentimental. These are some of the things I was thinking about for this father's day. He's not getting all these but these are my ideas.

Father's Day Scavenger Hunt

We celebrated Father's Day a little early around here because my hubby is working this Sunday. He has been hinting about an iPhone for about a year now. I finally caved but made him work to find it! He said he had no clue what I had gotten him he thought it was a tie.

Father's Day Tie Scavenger Hunt

Tips:

• Number each clue and where it should go.
• Be creative!
• Make sure your clue will fit in the space . Little #5 went inside the AC controls.

My Clues:

1 Follow each clue to see why (and how) we love you! Start by looking where we keep the stuff cold that we nourish our body with! Because you bring home the bacon! (Fridge)

2. Look where I store all the resources you provide so I can buy the stuff for our house. (My wallet)

3. Go to the latest splurge to help us keep clean. (Washing Machine)

4. You provide so we can stay cool when it's hot outside. (AC)

5. We can pay the bills that the mail lady brings. Find the next clue where these are delivered (Mailbox)

6. Yum! Find the next clue behind our nightly treat. (Ice cream)

7. This keeps us going and you pay for it! The next clue is where we pump. (Gas tank cap)

8. You gave her to me. Where she sleeps lies the tie. (PB's bed)

9 We rest easy because of you! Your reward lies where you rest your head! (under pillow)

Interesting picture, huh?

It's all about perspective. When you look at it straight on, that is what you get. But.... look at it from one side and you see 

And the other side you will see: 

Pretty cool, huh?

Here's how to do it.

First select 2 photographs that are the same size and orientation. I selected 2 orchids that Jasmine and I saw at the Biltmore Estate in Asheville, NC.

Father's Day Idea: Select one picture of the dad and one picture of the child and create a unique piece of art for a Father's Day gift.

Trim your photos to a size that the length is easily divisible by either 1/2" or other measurement. (I cut the length of mine down to 5 inches so I could divide it by 1/2".)

Next mark the backs of the photos in 1/2" segments. (You can use a different width.) Label the photos as shown. (One is 1A, 2A, 2A, etc and the other is 1B, 2B, 3B, etc.)

Cut on the lines. I used a rotary cutter, but a paper cutter would work well, too. I wouldn't recommend using scissors unless you a scissor cutter extraordinaire! The cuts must be very straight.

Cut a piece of light colored cardstock to the same width as the photos and the length of both photos ". (Since my pics were 4" x 5", I cut my cardstock to 4" x 10". ) Mark 1/2' increments on the cardstock.

Carefully fanfold the cardstock on the marked lines. 

Label the segments 1A, 1B, 2A, 2B, etc.

Fan fold the cardstock along the lines. Be very careful and crease the folds well.

Use a glue stick to generously spread glue on the first few segments. Make sure you get all the way to the edges. Glue picture piece 1A on the segment marked 1A, then 1B, and so on. Stay straight! Continue through the rest of the segments.

When finished, fold the piece slightly. You can put this in a mat and then frame it.
