Help With Painting!

Back in the day, Brooke and I used to share a room. When my mom asked us what color we wanted to paint our room, Brooke chose purple and I chose pink. After Jordan went to college, Brooke got Jordan's room and I stayed in our purple and pink room. It's been some time since then and I've seemed to out grow lilac purple and cotton candy pink. So now I have paint to paint my room. I chose "Valuable Gift" (AKA a light khaki) and "Chocolate Sundae" which are pictured below. Valuable Gift will be all the walls except one. Chocolate Sundae will be my accent wall. So here's my question. What should I do with my accent wall? I saw on Trading Spaces years ago where they painted the room one color and painted stripes on the wall with gloss paint. I was thinking about maybe doing that but instead of stripes, checkers. But I don't know. I need your help! If you've never commented on the blog, I challenge you to today. If you're our top commenter, don't stop any time soon especially on this post! I need suggestions people, pretty please!

I didn't know you were painting your room. Good bye, pink and purple.

Ok so what about doing something like this: http://pinterest.com/pin/217468031/

Man, that Trading Spaces really stuck with me, too! I think they actually painted the glossy stripes using polyurethane?

Jaime's idea is cool. If you're into stencils, you could do that too. I think a checkerboard would be fun, too.

(PS, love your call to comment!)

Am I one of your top commenters, teehee, ya I guess I am a tad competitive, lol.
As for your walls. I think it depends on your style. I love the idea of you accent wall. (I remember that one on Trading spaces) If you want a elegant room, I would go with the stripes, if you want a more playful, relaxed room, I would go with Jamie's idea.....which is awesome by the way :)

Those colors would look great as checkers.

I love all of the awesome wall stencils I've been seeing in blogland! I'm just stopping by from tonight's chat at TCB to say hi!

I actually just read one of my favorite blogs and she referenced that Trading Spaces look, calling it "dated," and suggesting you color 2 walls instead of one if you're going to go this route. From what I've seen coming out of my favorite design blogs, I definitely second that. I think it works really well to brighten up the darkest corner of the room with your lighter color.

I painted stripes in my daughter's room and in the landing of the third floor in our last house. I loved having the opportunity to use paint as accents, easy and relatively inexpensive to do and correct if there is a problem or you change your mind.

The problem with stripes (checks and sometimes stencils) was that when we eventually wanted a change we had to sand the walls to rid ourselves of the painted edges the extra layer of paint the stripes left--I found that sponging on the stripes eliminated this problem.

My daughter in law just striped her laundry room, same color, one glossy, one eggshell--very subtle, very elegant--if a laundry room can be elegant.

Whatever you choose it will be a change worth the effort. Remember that paint is easy and the difference it makes is like a breath of fresh air.

Happy painting.

Dated smated, go with what YOU like.

Marta had some good points.

I second the note that stripes are hard to sand out... although with any luck you'll be outta there and won't have to deal with it ;)

Chevrons and horizontal stipes are what I've seen in lately. I dare you to get our your protractor and stencil that in!

What if instead of adding a design to the chocolate wall, bring the chocolate color to the other walls with a simple design/stencil.Thank you for being part of Thrifty Things Friday and have a wonderful day!

I'm not really one for checks, but maybe chevron? :)

I HAVE TWO IDEAS FOR SILL:
1 - YOU CAN DO THE WALL WITH CHOCOLATE CREAM COLOR IN thin strips, TO ENLARGE HORIZONTAL, VERTICAL TO DEEPER '
2 - YOU CAN DO WITH THE WALL AND THE CHOCOLATE CREAM FREE HAND DRAWING THE PROFILE OF YOUR CITY 'OR NY.
I HOPE to check out this helpful. THEN WE WANT TO SEE THE WORK COMPLETED!!
