You're Invited! Blue's Clues Party Invite + a printable

Remember PB's ice cream party from last year?

She was so little!!
This year we decided to do a Blue's Clues theme. She watched all of the episodes with Steve (there are 98 but don't you dare put on one with Joe) two times over on Netflix. She sleeps with a stuffed "Boo" and loves to say "Maaaaail!"

In the next couple days I'll be posting details and things I learned along the way from her party. Today we'll start out with the invite.

To start I counted how many invitation I would need. I decided to make 12 and I could fit 2 cards per page (my dimensions were about 5.5" x 10") so I bought 6 pages of yellow card stock. I went to Staples to get 3 color pages of the chair and 3 of the inside picture printed. The prints turned out better than my printer and were only $.59 each.

I cut out the chairs and inside info and 5 pieces of about 3" long ribbon per card. I glued the ribbon on the front first under where the chair picture would cover.

I then flipped the card over and glued the ribbons onto the back. I glued another piece of card stock scrap over the ends to secure. I then glued the picture onto the front and to the inside and they were ready to go in the mail.

Here is the printable for the front of the card. Enjoy!

Join us tomorrow for more from the party!

Christmas Printable

I was thinking of doing a Christmas printable, and Jaime suggested it, too—but then I wasn't sure what words to use. I love the sentiment of "Wise men still seek Him," but I've already seen a lot of beautiful art and crafts done with that. Jaime suggested the words to Handel's Messiah (which are already from the Bible), and when she said that, I knew exactly which lines I wanted to do.

Then I had to find a picture. My previous printables were fun, with big graphic designs and bold colors, but with the words I wanted to use, that style just didn't feel right. A quick visit to Google and Wikipedia yielded a beautiful painting by Gerard von Honthorst called Adoration of the Shepherds (though he's done at least two versions of the scene).

(The painting is in the public domain worldwide.)

I really like how it came out, but my B&W laser printer won't do it justice, so I'm going to have it printed at a photo store. Just in case you'd like to do the same, I made several sizes. The smaller sizes have larger text up top (so it's legible), slightly different cropping and some of the bottom words have been moved around, but they're all the same images:

(also suitable for full-sheet printing from a home printer)

Greeting car (just in case you don't have those yet!): 4.25"x5.5"

(with a slight "gutter" of extra space running around the edge,
to help keep the words from being cut off—I hope)

To print these at home:

To print these as photos:
On the Photobucket page, click on the image (it will get bigger). Right click on the picture and save it to your computer, then upload it to whatever photo site you'd like, or use a USB drive to have it printed at the photo shop of your choice.

Fall harvest printable

I like graphic design and typography (though I don't claim to be great at either), so printables are one of my favorite "computer crafts." Going along with the harvest challenge theme, I found a quote about harvest and used a fall-color chevron pattern (from here) as a background. The brown is my favorite shade of brown (which we use here on this blog), the dark red and orange are defaults in my graphics program, and the yellow actually came from a photograph of yellow poplar leaves. Add in lots of fonts from my graphics program, and some clip art, and voila!

We've got the chevron pattern in the letters:
And in the background:

You might want to open the image in a new tab or window. Make sure that the image is full-size: it should be bigger than your screen. If it isn't full size, click on it to blow it up. then, from the menu of your browser, select print preview. The image is designed to print at about 8" square, so just click print (I hope!).

If you're just joining us on WGC, here are some of our other fall-themed crafts:
Fall table runner made from 4 fat quarters
$1 Fall leaves canvas art

Which printable do you like better? What's your favorite fall or harvest quote?

Fourth of July Patriotic Word Art (Free Printable!)

Don't forget: tomorrow is the last day to enter the month-by-month onesie giveaway!

Since our Founding Father shares a name with one of our country's Founding Fathers, the Wayward Girls have been brought up with a love of our homeland.

To celebrate the Fourth of July this year, I decided to try my hand at my first "formal" word art:

To print this free printable, click on the picture above. (You might want to open the image in a new tab or window.) Make sure that the image is full-size: it should be bigger than your screen. If it isn't full size, click on it to blow it up. Then, from the menu of your browser, select print preview. The image is designed to print at 7"x9.1" (I had it at 8x10 but it was giving my printing program troubles still. Plus you can use a mat this way.) Make sure your page orientation is set to landscape and scale the picture to fit the page.

(Or you can fiddle with the settings to get it to print however you like.)

I think the "of the" might be my favorite part. The font looks like it's from a dollar bill!

How are you planning to celebrate (or decorate for) the Fourth of July? Or what's your favorite patriotic holiday?

Guest post: Teresa from Creative Cowgirl + GIVEAWAY

Month by Month My First Year Onesie Tutorial

Howdy there! My name is Teresa and I blog at Creative Cowgirl. I am super excited to be blog swapping here at Wayward Girls' Crafts. I love all sorts of crafts from scrapbooking to paper crafting to sewing. You can read more about me and my blog by clicking on my blog button.

I am a Mommy of three adorable kiddos ages 7, 2 and 5 months. I find that time has been going by so fast with my newest little one and I wanted to be sure that I was documenting her growing as much as I did with my other two.

Today, I am sharing with you a fun gift for the new mom since the Wayward Girls are welcoming a new addition to their family!

I picked out a digital scrapbooking kit from Designer Digitals and using Photoshop Elements came up with 12 months of tags for me to add to my daughter’s onesies. I used a 3.5” square but you can use a circle or even a fancier shape like a dinosaur or a star.

Month by Month Onsie Promo Page copy
I saved each image as a jpeg and imported it into my Silhouette Studio software. I then mirrored the image before printing. Using the “print and cut” feature. I printed each one out on printable iron-on transfer paper and then ironed them on to her onsies.

Start by heating up your iron and prepare your iron on a hard surface. Pressure is your friend.

Lay down an old pillow case and iron out all the wrinkles.

Then lay out your onsie and iron it to get the moisture and wrinkles out and place your iron on printed side down.

Then iron using the cotton setting and press down as hard as possible. The instructions said to iron for about one minute. Then let it cool. Slowly peel one corner of the paper and peel it back.

You will have a personalized onsie in minutes!

I then did a bit of sewing…to fancy it up. I made a little flower out of Hawaiian ribbon I had and then sewed ribbon on the edge of the neckline.

These are great for a baby shower gift. You can just package up the transfers and print out some cute directions and let the new Mommy iron it on the onsie, that way the size is correct.
Then she can start snapping away with her camera…
