What I Gave part 2

Like Jaime I made a lot of my gifts for Christmas for our siblings and parents this year. I was really inspired by things I saw on Pinterest. I made two things in particular that I was really proud of. The first I made 9 pairs of were hand warmers.

Hand warmers

Needed:

Fleece (with the 18 I made I didn't even use a full yard)
Thread
Rice
Some sort of funnel- I used a piece of cereal box.
Scrap paper

I first made a template out of some scrap paper. I sewed around the edges with right sides together leaving a space to turn them right side out. I turned them right side out and sewed around the edges. I used my funnel to fill them and I tucked the edges of the opening and sewed them shut.

When I gave them I gave the instructions which are to microwave them for 30 seconds. I think you can experiment with more so that they stay warmer longer.

Coasters

4"x4" tiles
Scrapbooking paper
Mod podge
Acrylic Spray

I made two sets of coasters that had 6 tiles each. I picked out papers and accents that went with my mom and my mother-in-law's living rooms. I cut out and arranged and mod podged each layer. Leave time in between layers for drying. I put 5 coats of mod podge on the tiles making sure the accents were pressed down each time. I then put on the acrylic spray using 4 layers waiting in between for drying time. The jury is still out about final drying time. On the can it says wait 15 minutes between coats and we did that and they had not fully hardened a couple days later. I would wait a few weeks before using them.

Handmade Sculpey Buttons

Hello and welcome to Wayward Girls' Crafts! I'm so excited you are here. Here's a little bit about myself:

I began scrapbooking in 2006 with a mini album for my husband. Now I have scrapped over 200 layouts. My work is defined with hand-cut embellishments, bright colors, and witty titles. I've found so much inspiration from crafting blogs and want to put it to work! I'm interested in thrifting, decorating, cooking solutions, photography, and papercrafting.

And I'll let you in on a little secret, I love to play with Play-Doh with my nephew now!

I equate Sculpey to an adult's version of Play-Doh. It was so fun to mess around with for an hour. I decided a few years ago I wanted to make my own buttons and bought some Sculpey for the project. I brought it with me across the country and finally, 2.5 years later, I made some buttons:

For my first time making buttons, I think they turned out great! They may have been a little overcooked so next time I will check them more often. I experimented with a bunch of different household items to cut the circles for the buttons, including a tablespoon measuring spoon, the lid to my facial soap, and the my toothpaste lid. (I ran all of that stuff through the dishwasher and then put it back on) I'd recommend putting paper (not newspaper) on your work area otherwise you'll end up with a colored table, and I'm not sure how easy that is to clean up. Also, try mixing the colors together. I loved the effect I got.
