Festive Garland Skirt and a Winner!

On Saturday it was my best friend's Christmas party. Her invitation said there would be the prize for the most festively dressed person was a 5 course meal prepared by my best friend. I wanted to win! Last year I was an elf:

This year I got my inspiration from a candy cane:

First I made my skirt from an old red t shirt. I used the pattern I made from the Super Simple Pencil Skirt. I really should have made a real waist band, but luckily a belt worked. Then I cut strands of garland from the Dollar Tree in half, doubled it again, and glued at the top. I swirled the garland a bit and glued at the bottom. It was quite eye catching (although a little unflattering!) and the best part was, I won!! Yay!

The other winner is ME! I purchased my new sewing machine on Monday. (Pfaff Ambition 1.5) It is fantastic. I made a receiving blanket and burp cloth and used some of my 195 stitches to trim them. I learned to choose wisely-- the leaf pattern, though adorable, took a long time to do and a lot of thread to do it.

November Plans and a Winner!

So this I just did a big closet purge and donated or threw out a bunch of clothes that didn't fit, I never wore or just needed to be retired. I gave away shirts, bathing suits, dresses, the whole shabang. And holy cow folks, it filled up a few large Target shopping bags. So it got me thinking maybe this month I should dedicate at least a couple posts to fashion.. I'm no Tim Gunn or anything (make it work) but why not have some fun? If you want me to post about anything specific (color pallets, what's in and what's so not, all that jazz) PLEASE comment! I could get on my soap box and preach until the cows come home but it's not going to matter if it interests no one. So please, please, please, comment and let me know!

Now for the awesome little Halloween decorations that I love. Brooke and my mom might try to fight you for these little puppies! I guess I'll make some more so it doesn't have to come to that. But without further ado...
