Mailing Easter Eggs!

So you may have seen this pin:

I did sometime last year and have been patiently waiting for Spring since! Here's what I came up with for my nephew and nieces.

For my nephew: A growing, glow in the dark skeleton, a spinning top, a Lightning McQueen pad of paper, a Phineas and Ferb sticker and a little squirting animal.

My niece's wasn't too different: a spinning top, a Mater pad of paper, a Phineas and Ferb sticker (not pictured for some reason!), a little squirting animal and a pretty necklace.

All these small items fit inside a somewhat larger egg (it's not huge!). All my items came from the Dollar Tree, including the eggs. I will send these out soon and let you know how they fare in the mail!

Christmas in a Box

November marks 6 years of marriage for me and my hubby! In 6 years, we’ve spent a few Christmases at home. Those years are always tougher for me. I miss my family a lot, especially during the holidays. That’s where I came up with my holidays in a box idea!

This package is meant to make your loved one feel more connected to the holiday traditions you have at home.

Inside my box:
  • Ornament from my family’s Christmas tree. We always trimmed the tree together and a major tradition was getting a new ornament every year in our stocking. As we grew, our ornament changed from Cookie Monster, to the Little Mermaid, to my preoccupation with kissing boys. The one in this box is Justin Beiber.
  • Sugar cookie mix and cookie cutters. It's just not Christmas without sugar cookies and icing at our house. We have a tradition of making them...ugly. Check it out.
  • Letter to Santa. We wrote letters to Santa way longer than we should have. So I thought it'd be fun to have a Mad Libs type letter to set out with the cookies. Here's an idea
  • Christmas Eve pajamas. We got to open one present each year on Christmas Eve. Inevitably it would be matching pajamas. Then we take a million pictures.
  • Biblical passages of Christ’s birth and quotes about Christmas. Christmas isn't complete without reading the nativity story. Great way to remember the reason we celebrate.
  • Two Christmas Movies. I love Christmas movies! Elf and the Polar Express are the ones I've included. Both faves at my house.
  • Christmas socks. I love festive socks, so I had to include a pair.

There you have it! How to send a little Christmas tradition anywhere!

Merry Christmas!

Will You Be My Bridesmaid?

The way I told my sisters I was getting married was by calling them and asking them to be my bridesmaids. They were the easy ones. Now I had to ask my fiance's 2 sisters and 1 sister-in-law. I don't really like calling people on the phone (minus my crazy family) and I also didn't have any of their numbers so I thought I'd be creative. I sent these out ASAP since we decided to make the dresses ourselves. My mom and I found these fun gold boxes and bought some ring pops.

On the inside flap of the boxes I wrote "Will you be my bridesmaid?" (I had to punch a tiny hole in the ring pop wrapper with a pin and push out the air to get them to fit in the boxes.)
I wrote them 2 notes. One was asking them to be my bridesmaid, for some of the measurements and then I told them about myself. I also added in a note briefly about how my fiance and I met, started dating and decided to get married.
Lastly, I cut small samples of the material for the bridesmaid dresses and put them in with the letters and ring pops in a padded envelope. They got them pretty quickly and...they loved the package and all said yes!

Over Sized Playing Card Post Card

The Wayward Girls are very excited for Jasmine's upcoming nuptials. Now we can plan a wedding with the help (or hindrance, depending on how you look at it) of Pinterest. To congratulate Jasmine, I made her a fun post card.

Photobucket

I bought these Heidi Swapp playing cards a long time ago--maybe 5 years ago? I fell in love with them but could never scrap with them because I loved them too much. Makes tons of sense, huh? Anyways, it was time to finally use them for a card for the new queen of diamonds.

This craft was very easy. All I did was write my message on an index card and tape it on the back. Addressed it, added a stamp and it was good to go! Note: this message was a recreation, since I didn't take a picture of the back of the card before sending it.

Jasmine was surprised and happy with her card. What more can you ask for?

Cereal-ously Fun Post Cards!

One day I was at my aunt's house, looking at all the fun things you can send through the mail on Giver's Log with her teenage daughters. My aunt then said that one of the coolest things she ever got in the mail was a post card made from a cereal box. I LOVED this idea and wanted to send some fun post cards to my nephew and niece (Jordan's kids). Another thing I loved about it? The cost: it's free!

What you do:

Photobucket

Take a cereal box, and cut it up in to a rectangle. Make sure to cut it between the minimum and maximum sizes set by the Post Office:
  • Minimum: 5" long by 3 &1/2" high
  • Maximum: 11" long by 6 & 1/8" high

On the back, write out your message. Then address it and stamp it.

And send!

Here's proof my niece (4 years old) and nephew (6 years old) liked 'em

These would be equally fun for kids to make!

Other boxes to cut up and send: Mac and Cheese, Brownie or Cake mix, Tampon box (if you're feeling brave/funny/stupid with your menstruating friend), Toothpaste box (post card from the tooth fairy?). Tissue boxes for sick or sad friends, or a shoe box for shoe lover. Tons of possibilities and all of 'em are free!
