Organization While Planning

Planning the wedding was not the easiest but it surely contained a lot of lists. I didn't really know where to begin in the whole planning thing so I went online to try to find some checklists. Members of the Latter-day Saint faith typically have shorter engagements than those who are not members which means there's a whole lot to do in a little amount of time. Luckily, this is something that happens quite frequently and I was able to find a 4 month engagement checklist for an LDS bride online; they also have 6 months. (Click here for direct link) This was a good starting point. I wrote on it dates, who was helping with what, who was doing what (photographer, dresses, etc) all that jazz. Then, one week for Family Home Evening, we had a planning session with Brooke included.
We wrote down all the things that needed to be done from fixing the flooring in the kitchen to flowers to getting my hair done. It was a very full list. And then we assigned dates we would like for things to be done like getting the announcements out by Thanksgiving. So things were on the schedule! This also helped reduce some anxiety by having things laid out and clear as to when they needed to be done. Then, I took a white board I found in my closet and divided it up into 18 weeks...the exact time to when the wedding would be. It was crazy! I wrote down all the important dates in specific colors. Blue was wedding plans, dark orange was home improvements, and pink was random things not exactly related to the wedding. Every Saturday I would fill out the major things I needed or wanted to get done or start doing. It was nice to keep this up and helped me keep in perspective what I needed to do weekly.

(the photo was instagramed, I promise it's a white board not dingy! And oh my, oh my I just realized I put the apostrophe in the wrong spot. How could I???)

I'm Back!

Hello faithful readers! After the wedding, honeymoon, traveling across the country and finally getting somewhat settled into our new apartment back at school...I am back! So...what do I have to blog about? Well I have LOADS to talk about the wedding but...my computer decided to move on to Computer Heaven so all of my pictures and files are a little inaccessible right now (will be visiting a computer help desk place thingy soon!) So let's do some planning for when I actually get all these pictures back. What do you want to know about?
Here are some things I can/ probably will post about:
My wedding dress and bridesmaid dresses
Centerpieces
Tablecloths
Reception food (choosing a menu, making vs buying)
CAKE! (well...mom should post about that since she made it)
Flowers (bouquets, boutonnieres and arrangements)
Accessories (shoes, jewelry, ties, all that good stuff)
Wedding Favors (seriously LOVED making these)
Reception decorations!!

So tell me what you're the most interested in. I hope you all are interested in everything. I would love to tell you all about how we planned and pulled everything together. So yes, tell me what you'd like to read about most and I'll make those posts even better...ok, I don't really know how to do that but I'll make sure to post about those first with lots of good details!

Planning With Pinterest

Ok so planning a wedding using Pinterest is a love/hate relationship. I started the whole wedding planning by mid-August and I started on Pinterest.com. I quickly decided this was no easy task. Here are some tips I picked up from my searching. This can also be applied to just about any even planning.

Look for boards of real brides not dream weddings:
Dream weddings are great but they aren't realistic. You probably aren't going to have a 17 tiered cake with your venue made of pure gold. You can search just boards and not pins.
I searched for "Winter Weddings" and actually got a lot of results. By searching with the type of event it really does help because there will hopefully be boards named something similar and boards could be tagged with keywords that can lead your search to where you want it.

Pin one thing at a time:
If you click on the "Weddings" category, you're going to get a lot of random stuff that's repetitive and sometimes a little risque. It's fun just to look through somethings but really I found it overwhelming and not applicable to what I want for my wedding.
I decided to attack one thing at a time. I found a dress that I liked and searched the designer on Pinterest. I found lots of pins relating to the designer. I also checked out some of the boards from when people repinned what I liked to see if they had other good ideas. I did the same thing for centerpieces and bridesmaid dresses, too. Started with an idea, searched it on pinterest and saw where that lead me.

Look at more pins from uploader:
Did you know that when you click on a pin you can see where they were uploaded from? This will take you to the website which opens you up to many ideas straight from the source. Also, when you click on the uploader link, this will show you what other pins come from that website. (You can do this with our website on Pinterest too!!)

Also, did you know if you have another window open to Google.com, you can click and drag the pin over to Google and Google will search for where the picture has been (my wonderful sister, Brooke, told me about this!) This can help if the pin does not include where it was originally pinned from instead of annoying websites that really don't help in planning like Tumblr.

Beginning of Wedding Planning

First, I need help with what to do for my pumpkin this year! Remember last year? Yeah how can I top that? I would like to do an homage from one of the my favorite movies that came out this year. So which should I choose from? Hunger Games, Spider-Man, Batman or something else? Please help!!

So I guess I can start to tell you all about this wedding of mine. I met my fiance at church away at school at the beginning of last semester. We were friends and then we were friendlier and now we're getting married! It's kind of crazy to think we're getting married!

We decided to get married in December so the winter wedding plans started with a winter color palette. My favorite color is red and his is green. Christmas right? Yeah, we're not going with a Christmas theme. So red it was. I looked at different paint chips and was able to decide the right hue. Choosing the accent color was the easy part. Either color we chose, green or red, I knew it was going to be a light gold or champagne color. After choosing colors, things got moving because decisions were easier to make. Here's my color!

So when planning an event or more specifically the wedding, you have to take into account what season the event will happen in.
Spring: lighter, airy colors like pastels or white
Summer: bright, fun and bold colors like primary colors
Fall: earthy tones with a more red or yellow hue like fall leaves
Winter: darker colors, earthy tones still work, bluer hues like purple or deep reds and greens
Accent colors shouldn't rival your main color. Choosing metal colors like silver, gold or bronze is a great place to start. Accent colors should be more mild. Compare the colors together. Don't be afraid of being picky! I was quite picky when it came to finding the right shade of champagne.

A Million Questions I want to know the answers to:
So would you all like to know? Anything? Do you all want to know about the wedding plans (ie venue decorations, centerpiece, flowers, bridesmaid dresses, etc.)? Am I asking enough questions? I don't want to bore you readers with wedding plans so you all tell me! Thank you all :)
